Racial profiling and disparities run rampant in modern-day law enforcement, particularly in the South Side of Chicago. To increase transparency, Sarah will urge federal law enforcement agencies to collect statistics on race and ethnicity of people they stop, search or arrest—and require local law enforcement receiving federal money to do the same. She will push for legislation that reduces militarization of modern law enforcement and prohibits SWAT raids for nonviolent drug warrants so that South Side residents feel safe in their homes and communities. She will call for mandatory investigations into every shooting involving law enforcement and demand accountability for every officer who abuses their authority or uses excessive force. Sarah will also push for policies that promote wealth building in black communities, including reparations to rectify the economic imbalances resulting from slavery and atone for it.
